Bhopal District Court has awarded a compensation of Rs 2.82 crore to the families of two victims who lost their lives in a tragic road accident in January 2022. The claim amount was determined based on the victims' salaries.
The accident occurred on January 23, 2022, when Rajkumar Sisodia and Sanjeev Kant Bhagat were traveling to Multai with their relatives. At around 11:45 PM, a truck (registration number MP 12 H 1371) exiting a roadside dhaba suddenly halted on the road. Unable to stop in time, their car collided with the stationary truck, resulting in the deaths of Rajkumar and Sanjeev.
The families of the deceased later filed a claim against truck driver Sandeep Kakodia, truck owner Abdul Wahid, and Shriram General Insurance Company Limited.
Principal District and Sessions Judge Manoj Kumar Srivastava ruled in favor of the victims' families, awarding a total compensation of Rs 2.82 crore. Rajkumar’s family was granted Rs 1.20 crore, while Sanjeev’s family was awarded Rs 1.62 crore. The compensation was calculated based on the victims' annual salaries and future financial prospects. Sanjeev Kant Bhagat, a senior engineer in the Railways Department, earned Rs 1,04,826 per month (Rs 12.57 lakh annually). Rajkumar Sisodia, a senior section engineer in the Railways Department, had a monthly salary of Rs 51,416 (Rs 6.16 lakh annually). The court considered their earnings, future financial needs, and necessary deductions while finalizing the compensation.
In a separate case, the Bhopal District Court directed the Municipal Corporation to correct the birth certificate of Ashwini Nariyani, a city resident. Ashwini was unable to renew her passport and pursue higher education abroad due to an incorrect date of birth on her birth certificate. The document mistakenly listed her birth date as August 27, 2002, instead of August 28, 2002. Based on hospital records, Chief and Sessions Judge Manoj Kumar Srivastava ordered the Municipal Corporation to rectify the error, ensuring Ashwini could proceed with her academic aspirations.
