In a first of its kind initiative, the volunteers of Clean Our Planet Society (COPS), in association with the Madhya Pradesh Eco Tourism Development Board, conducted a ‘Green Picnic’ at Kerwa Jungle Camp on Sunday.
The event was an attempt to pay tribute to Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 147th birth year. As many as 30 volunteers that included young professionals and students gathered at the Kerwa Jungle Camp to make a substantial contribution to the society on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
Titled ‘Green Picnic’, the event was an initiative to educate people about the importance of keeping eco tourism and picnic spots (which are left untouched by the municipal corporation) clean.
The volunteers were taught about the importance of keeping picnic spots clean through Treasure Hunt, Scavenger Hunt and an array of other interesting games. Around 30 garbage bags were collected. Extending his appreciation Arun Rai, Manager, Madhya Pradesh Eco Tourism Board said, “It was good to see youngsters getting aware of the environment and taking responsibility to clean it. We look forward to more such efforts in future.”
COPS have conducted two successful drives on July 31 and August 28 at Boat Club road and Sair Sapata respectively. Around 20 volunteers gathered to clean the road adjoining Boat Club and the Prempura Ghat. The initiative has also garnered appreciation and support from the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department.
