The police on Friday prevented protesting contractual teachers from holding a rally at the Chief Minister's residence here on Friday.

Taking precautionary measure, a heavy police force was deployed from the morning at all the routes leading to the city. Around 5000 contractual teachers were detained at lalghati, railway station, bus stand and other areas.

The detainees were sent to temporary jails, old jail, central jail and other jails. One of the protesting teachers identified as Mukesh fainted and was rushed to Hamidia hospital and later discharged after providing first aid.

The rally was planned by the contractual teachers of the state from lalghati to CM house. Earlier on Thursday Bharat Patel of the Azaad Teachers Union declared that a rally comprising of 50,000 contractual teachers would be organised.

The rally was announced after the talks between officials and contractual teachers at municipalities and panchayats ended without any agreement.

Following the talks failure, 17 of them were arrested. They were sent to jail for spreading misinformation and delivering provocative speeches.

Protesting for nearly a fortnight, the Azaad Teachers Union has had talks with officials of the Public Education Department in Gautam Nagar. At the meeting Additional Chief Secretary SR Mohanty, Commissioner Public Education Department DD Agrawal, president of the union Bharat Patel and others were present.

The two major demands among the 15 are inclusion with the education department and complete payment of sixth pay commission by December 2015.
