Controversy over PCC celebrating festivals

The decision of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) to celebrate festivals to woo Hindu voters has become controversial, as a Muslim leader on Monday reached the PCC office with cooked sacrificed meat.

The series of celebrating festivals started in the PCC with the installation of lord Ganesha’s idol. The festival continued for 10 days and later after a gap of 15 days, idol of Goddess Durga was installed in the office.

During the Navratri festival, the Congress leaders organised religious programmes for nine days. Senior Congress leader Akbar Baig had earlier registered his protest over celebrations in the PCC, stating that Tajias should be prepared and goat should be sacrificed in the office.

As it was Eid-ul-Adha on Monday, Baig reached with mutton and chapattis and distributed among the party workers who were present there. On the occasion, he told that from now on the PCC would celebrate festivals of all the religions.

Notably, senior Congress leader Gufran-e-Azam has earlier objected the festival celebrations in the PCC, stating that the Congress office is not the home of State president Arun Yadav, where he could organize celebrations with his wits.

Besides, former PCC Chief Kantilal Bhuria is also against the festival celebrations in the PCC. He feels that the party office belongs to people of all religions and castes and such celebrations would harm sentiments of others.
