Published on:

Contingency action plans have been sanctioned to deal with likely emergency situations arising out of filling of reservoirs of Narmada Valley Project in the State during the monsoon. The Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA) has sanctioned Rs551.08 lakh for contingency action plans for Sardar Sarovar, Upper Veda, Maan, Jobat, Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar project reservoirs.

The action plans envisage setting up of temporary camps for safe stay of flood-affected families during the monsoon and other necessary arrangements including motorboats, lifejackets etc. for relief and rescue operations. Arrangements of light, drinking water and medical treatment will also be made for affected people in the camps. District administration will also avail services of divers and the Home Guards for security.

A flood control room has been set up at Narmada Bhavan, Bhopal, the headquarters of Narmada Valley Development Authority for exchanging information about relief and rescue works. The control room is informing concerned districts and officers about water level of various reservoirs daily at 6 am, 12 noon and 6 pm. The control room will also disseminate information about release of water from reservoirs and other information as per requirement.

Telephone of Narmada Valley flood control room is 0755-2526236 and fax number 0755-2677535.
