Alleging indifferent attitude towards hailstorm-hit farmers of the State, the Opposition Congress would burn the effigies of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and observe dharna simultaneously at all the districts and blocks of the State on Thursday. Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Arun Yadav on Wednesday instructed all the district and block Congress committees to compulsorily burn effigy of Chief Minister and observe dharna in their respective areas on Thursday, March 26. “The apathetic attitude of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government of the State headed by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan towards the natural disaster-hit farmers of the State is unbearable. We are demanding immediate compensation for the farmers-hit by unseasoned rains, hailstorm and floods, but the Chief Minister, who claims to be son of a farmer, is not paying any heed towards the demands of peasants, hence, we have chosen to follow the path of agitation,” Yadav said.
Yadav further said that the dharna and burning of Chief Minister’s effigy is in support of the agitating Congress legislators, who are sitting at dharna in the well of the Madhya Pradesh assembly since Tuesday evening. “The Chief Minister has not responded to our demands and unless and until, our demands are not met, the Congress MlAs would continue their agitation in the Assembly well,” he said. The MPCC president reached the State capital on Wednesday morning cancelling his all previous programmes and straight way reached the State Assembly where his party MlAs are staging dharna since Tuesday. Yadav held discussions with the leader of Opposition in State Assembly Satyadev Katare and agitating Congress MlAs besides office-bearers of the party to formulate the future strategy of the party. He spent the entire day in the Assembly.
