Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that frustrated over getting trapped in the web knitted by her party, Congress president Sonia Gandhi is unnecessarily targeting the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government at the Centre.

Madhya Pradesh BJP president Nandkumar Singh Chouhan in a statement here on Thursday said, “The Congress party never respected the democratic spirit. In the present circumstances having failed to get its required per cent of parliamentarians win, if the grand old party demands the post of the leader of Opposition in the parliament then the psyche of the Congress president could well be understood.”

Chouhan further said that only 44 members of Congress emerge victorious in the House of 543 that is below ten per cent and that is what the minimum criteria for getting the post of leader of Opposition.

He said that the lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan took opinion of the Attorney General over the issue who said that despite being the single largest party in the lok Sabha if the numbers are less than ten per cent than the post of leader of Opposition could not be given to single largest party, this is right decision.

He said that the on earlier occasions also the proceedings of the House were conducted without the leader of Opposition and the Congress itself after emerging victorious in 1980 and 1984 declined to provide leader of Opposition to any party. Now, why the Congress is expecting against that very same rule from the lok Sabha speaker, he added.

The senior BJP leader said that the Congress should not get frustrated and should not level baseless allegations against the NDA Government at the centre, by doing this the grand old party is becoming a subject of laughter and it’s what so ever little remained prestige and reliability is going to end.
