Bollywood actor and Congress MP Raj Babbar has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial nominee, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, is asking for votes not in the saffron party’s name but in his own name.
“In this election, the fight is not between two parties but two ideologies. The Congress has a Gandhian ideology. With only some days left before polling, the two principal parties’ candidates will utilise their entire strength,” he said while addressing a poll meeting here on Saturday night.
The Congress star campaigner denied there was any Modi wave in the country. “Modi is only misleading the country by misutilising the publicity medium. Ground realities will come to fore after parliamentary poll results,” Babbar said. Addressing the gathering, Babbar said: “Stopping communal forces from coming to power is the responsibility of all.” He called upon party men to give a befitting reply to rival’s attacks on the Congress. “If communal forces come at the helm of affairs, they will push the nation towards destruction,” he said.
He highlighted the growth rate maintained by the Congress-led UPA Government and claimed the same alliance would form the government at the Centre for the third consecutive term. He said leaders involved in corrupt practices were sent behind bars by the Congress.
Taking a dig at saffron brigade, Raj Babbar said, “Unlike BJP which is fighting elections on rhetoric of Modi, the Congress is contesting elections on historical background in freedom struggle, its tireless and continues efforts to develop infrastructure in the country, which includes roads, airports, railway lines, hospitals, schools, colleges, universities and number of people-oriented policies and programmes like NRHM and MNREGA schemes which have benefited the people of the country”. He termed Narendra Modi as super imposed leader who himself is much against the wishes of his own party leaders.
