With a fear of not getting ticket from the Congress in the upcoming municipal elections, sitting corporator of Congress Aziz Uddin joined the BJP along with his wife at the State BJP headquarters on Monday.

The elections are scheduled on January 31 and the last date for filing nominations is January 6.

Sources said that till early morning on Monday, Aziz Uddin made all out efforts and when sensed the leadership’s mood, decided to switch to the saffron party fold. Aziz Uddin represented ward number 42 in the Bhopal Municipal Council.

Aziz Uddin who was seeking Congress ticket for his wife Zarina Begum from ward number 42 represented by him in the outgoing Corporation and that has been reserved this time for the general woman, got annoyed with the cold response from the party leadership. Unable to get any commitment from the state leadership of Congress for his wife’s candidature, the Congress Corporator who was approached by the BJP with assurance of ticket for his wife from his desired ward decided to join it and on Monday noon reached the residence of Home Minister Babulal Gaur.

later, he along with his wife and supporters reached the BJP headquarters Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay campus and took membership.

Aziz Uddin while talking to The Pioneer said, “Being a sitting Corporator I was asking the ticket for my wife, but due to the interference of Congress MP from Guna Jyotiraditya Scindia the party leadership was overlooking me. The senior leaders were telling me to file nomination as Congress candidate but were not committing anything. In the meanwhile BJP approached me and offered me ticket, so I joined it.”

Aziz Uddin said that it is for the first time in the BJP history that the party has provided ticket of Corporator to a person with the joining of the party. “The Congress party is on the verge of getting finished due to factionalism in the state, still the national leadership is overlooking the leaders having mass base and prefers to those who are controlling the party in the state by sitting in palaces,” he added.
