Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president and party observer for the Banaras parliamentary constituency Siraj Mehdi claimed here on Sunday that the Congress would register victory with huge mandate in Banaras.
Mehdi, who was here to participate in a private family programme, while talking to the media persons said, “The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accepted its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's defeat from Banaras and that is why its general secretary and Banaras election in-charge Amit Shah has started demanding polls to be conducted under strict security with deployment of cameras and other modern techniques.”
Mehdi further said that the BJP's campaign was based on lies and in the beginning the people came in its delusion but with the passing time the lies of Modi and the BJP started getting exposed and the people came to know about the facts puncturing the campaign.
Elections could not be won by telling lies, they do not have any agenda except for the communal divisive agenda on which the BJP is largely banking. After failing to impress the people with their false development themes, the BJP and Modi started polarizing the elections communally and it is the result of that, the election that started on a positive note of development lost direction and has been limited to communalism and personal attacks, he added.
He said the BJP alleges that the country has been ruined under the Congress rule. But what would they say about the poor or wealthy carrying mobile phones. From where the roads came up throughout the country on which the people are moving. The BJP leaders are frequently changing helicopters for their campaigning. Are these not due to the development works carried out by the Congress regimes, he added.
The senior Congress leader said that the Congress has strengthened democracy in the country by proving RTI to the people, brought in food security and the country has achieved enormous development in the field of education.
On the contrary, what has BJP done during its over 6 years of rule in the country. The BJP claims to be providing strong Government. But was it not its Government that released the dreaded terrorists and one of its senior ministers went to Kandahar for providing safe passage to the terrorists, he added. The Congress leader claimed that the Congress would return to power and a UPA 3 would be formed.
