The State Congress alleging scam in onion purchase demanded recovery from guilty officers.
Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Arun Yadav in a statement here on Sunday said, “The onion purchased by the State Government in the name of helping farmers was not rotten, instead it was made to rot, hence recovery should be done from the officers responsible for letting the onion purchased from the hard earned tax payers money of the state rotten.”
Yadav demanded high level enquiry of the whole issue terming it as the onion scam. “The Government did not pay the price of onion to farmers from its pocket; it was purchased from the tax paid by the people. At the time of purchase the retail market price of the onion was around `5 per kg, during the purchasing procedure the retail price became higher than the Government’s purchasing rate.
The prices kept on rising but the State Government at the place of delivering the purchased onion to the people remained interested in benefitting the onion traders, the most amazing fact is that after the onion purchased to the tune of crores got rotten other crores were spent on disposing off the rotten onions, he added.
The state Congress president alleged that such cases of wastage of crores of rupees are coming to the fore because the Chief Minister does not have hold over the bureaucracy. The Government did not take lessons from the major scam in the wheat provided to the poor in the state at `1 per kg. Strict action was not taken against those officials who were involved in mixing mud in the wheat this boosted their morale and the onion scam took place.
Now the State Government has taken new work of delivering Tuar pulses to people at reasonable price and we demand that government should wake and make it sure that scams like wheat and onion does not take place in that, he added.
