Slogans echoed outside Heera Nagar police station as Congress workers protested the arrest of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) Leader of Opposition Chintu Chouksey late Sunday morning.
Choukse was arrested from his residence following a violent altercation on Saturday night. The clash, reportedly sparked by a water tanker dispute among children, escalated into a full scale confrontation between BJP and Congress workers.
Police said BJP worker Kapil Pathak filed a complaint, accusing Choukse and eight others of attacking him with a shovel and iron rod. Choukse was booked under IPC Section 307 for attempted murder and later taken to MY Hospital for a medical check-up. At the hospital, Choukse claimed he was not present at the scene. “If this isn’t jungle raj, what is? A minor incident is being used to crush dissent," he asserted.
Senior Congress leaders Sajjan Verma, Surjit Chaddha and Ashwin Joshi met Police Commissioner Santosh Singh, alleging political bias. “When Congress is involved, arrests happen in two hours. When BJP workers commit grave crimes, police wait two months,” Verma said. Additional DCP Ramsnehi Mishra confirmed that Pathak sustained serious head injuries, while individuals from Choukse’s side were also hurt but did not file complaints.
Choukse and Subhash Yadav have been arrested, while seven others — including Rohan and Ishan Choukse — are on the run. Police say the two sides have a history of clashes and political tension.
