State Congress president Arun Yadav had a face-off with his agitating party workers in Jabalpur on Tuesday, on completion of his first year in the office.
Angry over ticket distribution in the civic body elections of the State, the Congress workers in Jabalpur not only shouted anti-Yadav slogans, pelted eggs and tomatoes on his vehicle, but also attempted to pull him out from the vehicle. later, they also damaged the vehicle with canes.
Yadav, who was in Jabalpur to campaign for the party, faced the ire of the party workers, the day when completed one year in office as the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president.
When the slogan shouting angry Congress workers were humiliating their State chief, another senior party leader and State vice-president Rameshwar Nikhra and Vivek Tankha were accompanying him in the vehicle.
There were chaos and anarchy as the Congress workers were shouting ‘Arun Yadav wapas jao, wapas jao’ (Go back Arun Yadav, go back). All the three leaders got shocked over the party workers behaviour and remained sat in the vehicle.
Party workers alleged Yadav of selling party tickets to outsiders and inactive party workers and overlooking the active party workers and leaders. later, some elders including Jabalpur Congress
Committee president Dinesh Yadav came to the rescue of State Congress chief and made way for his vehicle to move out of the trouble-torn area.
The State Congress president though tried to show that he was unfazed with the treatment meted out to him and later speaking in a programme at Civic Centre in Bada Taal said, “I am not from those who get frightened, if anyone wants to have fight with me, he should come forward. I know who was behind the attack on me and I would not tolerate the indiscipline. Strict action would be taken against those who were involved in the attack from the front and also against those who were behind it.”
