Alleging swindling charges against State Home Minister Umashankar Gupta, Madhya Pradesh Congress on Wednesday handed over a memorandum to Governor Ramnaresh Yadav demanding to sack him from the Cabinet.
The Congress’ memorandum came after one Govind Singh Thakur of Kurwai (Vidisha district) lodged a complaint against Gupta with the lokayukta alleging that the Minister with the help of his relatives took cash from people for recruitment in police.
leader of Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Ajay Singh in the memorandum to Governor apprised that in the year 2009 Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta with his aide Sharad Awasthi and sister Shahsi Gupta swindled lakh of rupees from many youths in the name of police recruitment. Due to the irregularities in the recruitment the High Court had stayed the recruitment, following which the victims have lodged a complaint in this regard with the lokayukta on Wednesday.
Singh said, “The Home Minister did not return the victims’ money even after the High Court had stayed the recruitment process. The victims ran from police stations to Chief Minister with evidence of dealings with the Home Minister, in a CD, but no action has been taken against him.”
Singh further said, “I also raised the issue in the Assembly during the no confidence motion in November 2011 but the government did not take any action.”
In his memorandum he further highlighted that “all the victims are at your door with hope of getting justice. An impartial enquiry and action of the whole issue is not possible unless and until Gupta is removed from the cabinet. This could be gauged from the fact that during the past four years despite providing so many proves by the victims no action has been taken against Gupta. Hence it is requested from you to immediately terminate Gupta from the cabinet so that the victims could get justice.”
