Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Corporator Kripal Singh Verma will fight election for post of Ichhawar Nagar Panchayat council Chairman as the official candidate of Congress.
The decision of Sehore District Congress Committee (DCC) to give chance to a BJP Corporator has drawn flak from party rank and file who openly expressed their enrage over the decision.
Notably, Kripal Singh Verma was elected Corporator from Ward no 1 as BJP candidate in the by-elections after the then Nagar Panchayat council Chairman Sunil Rathi was removed from his post due to some controversy.
The elections for post of Ichhawar Nagar Panchayat council Chairman will be held on July 10. Verma who will fight the election as Congress candidate still retains his affiliation with BJP as he has not resigned from his position.
Reacting to the controversial development, senior Congress leader from the locality Dwarka Prasad Jat said that the office-bearers of DCC as well as the Block Congress Committee are bent on uprooting the party. He alleged that Sunil Sood, who will visit as party observer for the election, and the current presidents of the district and block committees are from the same faction and that is why they have ganged up to harm the party.
However, Ichhawar Block Congress Committee President Anar Singh Thakur defended the decision of giving ticket to BJP office-bearer and said that Verma has already taken membership of Congress and he is the best candidate for the post of Chairman of Nagar Panchayat.
At the same time, DCC President Kailash Parmar said that it is not legally binding for Verma to resign from his post and he can fight the coming elections as Congress candidate.
