With the appointment of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia as chairman of Madhya Pradesh's Congress poll campaign committee of State unit is confident of having an edge during the upcoming State Assembly elections.

While talking to media persons in Guna on Thursday, State party unit Vice President laxman Singh said, “Congress will definitely gain with the appointment of Scindia as election campaign committee chief in the State Assembly polls.”

Reacting to BJP's criticism of Scindia which called him feudal, Singh said the Union minister had questioned the saffron party as to why it did not think of feudalism over affiliation of his grandmother (Vijayaraje Scindia) or aunts (Vasundhara Raje and Yashodhara Raje Scindia) with that party.

On the party's prime ministerial candidate, laxman said since the country did not have a presidential form of government, declaration of a PM nominee before the elections amounted to an insult of the Constitution.

Terming as incorrect, reports that his elder brother - Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh - had been sidelined in the state party unit, laxman said all party leaders understood the necessity of having Digvijay on board.

laxman said the real test of state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's popularity would be held after the model code of conduct for elections comes into force, as then the government would be unable to bring crowds for Chouhan's meetings.

Meanwhile, Senior Congress leader Aslam Sher Khan on Thursday said that there would a close contest between his party and the ruling BJP in Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections slated later this year.

There is a neck-and-neck race between the Congress and the BJP right now for the upcoming Assembly elections, Aslam said.

“The State Government has failed on all fronts and the BJP is living in a dream world if it thinks that it can win the elections," said the leader, who is a former hockey Olympian.
