The main Opposition Congress in the State Assembly on Tuesday staged a walk-out protesting against what they termed as the Government's attempt to hush up the suicide of a Dindori tribal student in Bina following her sexually assault.
Raising the matter through a calling attention notice, Congress members Omkar Singh Markam, Govind Singh and Sachin Yadav said that police delayed the post-mortem.They also alleged that investigation into the case was deliberately delayed to protect certain influential people involved in the case. Other members from the Congress also took part in the discussion and held the State Government's attitude responsible for increasing such incidents.
The members alleged that the Town Inspector made a statement that the girl was mentally challenged in order to avoid accusations. In his reply, Home Minister Babulal Gaur admitted that the girl after being sexually assaulted committed suicide by climbing an electric pole and jumping from it. Four persons have been made accused in this case and later arrested.
He said that the delay in probe was because initially the body was not identified. However, he accepted the demand for an inquiry into the matter by a senior official from Bhopal.Congress member Ramniwas Rawat said that Rs 10 lakh ex gratia be provided to the victim's kin. However, Gaur said that the compensation would be provided in accordance with the rules while the matter of providing additional compensation would be considered.
Dissatisfied with the Minister's reply, Congress members, led by leader of Opposition Satyadev Katare, staged a walkout.
