Cong smells rat in SIMI activists escape

Politics has started over the escape of six members of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) from the Khandwa jail on Tuesday.

Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) vice-president and State organisational in-charge Rameshwar Nikhra while talking to The Pioneer said, “The incident of jailbreak and escape of the SIMI activists take place as per intent of the State Government. The terrorists have not fled instead they were allowed to escape.” Nikhra further said that the incidents exposed as to how desperate was BJP for getting power in the State and in the process it overlooked the national security.

The dreaded terrorists of the banned SIMI had been provided safe passage and in the name of searching them hundreds of innocent Muslim youths would be sent behind the bars just to please the majority community ahead of Assembly elections to garner its votes, he added. He said that many things were coming to the fore in relation with the escape of SIMI activists including a letter purportedly written by the Jailor of the Khandwa jail who had requested for additional security of these dreaded terrorists and was not provided with the same.

As per the jail manual, dreaded terrorists were to keep separately but while in Khandwa, they were kept in a barrack with 28 other prisoners. Besides their presence should be checked every hour but all these security points were overlooked, raising serious doubts over the intents of the State Government, he added.

He said that after such a serious incident, a couple of small employees were scapegoat and were suspended while senior officials responsible were saved. Home Minister should immediately resign owing moral responsibility of the case. Appropriate action should be taken against the senior police and administrative officials responsible, he demanded.
