The opposition Congress held a day-long dharna here on Wednesday to oppose shifting of Sultania Zanana Hospital. Congress protest dharna was held in front of Sultania Zanana Hospital to lodge its protest against the State Cabinet’s proposal of shifting the Sultania Hospital in the Kamla Nehru Hospital.
Former Spokesman of State Congress Arif Masood addressing the gathering on the occasion said the BJP government is discriminating the old Bhopal. All the government offices of old Bhopal are being shifted. Court, Regional Transport Office (RTO), Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office and Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) office have already been shifted to another place.
Masood said, “Now the government wants to shift the 144-year-old Sultania hospital. The area of the hospital is vast and the environment of the area is healthy for the health of the mother and the child. We would strongly protest against the government on this issue.”
Congress District President PC Sharma said that the Sultania hospital is situated in the centre of the city and it is convenient for the patients to reach the hospital so it should not be shifted.
Corporator Rafiq Qureshi said that there is a lot of vacant space in the hospital premises to create the facilities for the treatment of the newborns, if the government thinks that the hospital lacks the infant treatment facility. The government should enhance the facilities of the hospital instead of shifting it. The identity of the hospital would be ruined if shifted. The people of the area are raged over the scheme of shifting the hospital.
Former Mayor Deepchand Yadav said the hospital is near the bus stand and the railway station hence it is convenient for the patients of other districts to reach the hospital.
Former District Congress President Zaheer Ahmed, former BMC Chairman Kailash Mishra, BMC leader of Opposition Mohammed Saaghir, former Mayor Vibha Patel, MP Congress Committee’s former Secretary Abdul Nafees, Corporator Mewalal Kanarjee, Shahwar Mansoori also addressed the gathering during the protest.
