Taking strong objection to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat’s proposed Betul Jail visit in Betul, the Congress party has warned the jail superintendent not to violate the Jail Manual else be ready for punishment.

MP Congress Committee (MPCC) chief spokesperson KK Mishra in a statement here on Tuesday raised gross objection over RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s proposed jail visit in Betul on Wednesday, February 8  during his stay there. “Bhagwat does not hold any constitutional office and his identity is as the chief of the organization that could not even get registered despite being 91 years old and that does not have the provisions of national, state, divisional, district or block level membership. In these circumstances his entry in the jail by violating jail manual is unauthorized and illegal and that should be stopped,” Mishra said.

Mishra further said that Bhagwat who is on seven days state visit is scheduled to   visit the Betul Jail on Tuesday where he would pay homage to murder accused of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi and former RSS chief Madhav Sadashiv Golwarkar. He (Golwarkar) was locked in a cell of Betul Jail from February 13, 1949 to July 13, 1949. Bhagwat would enter illegally in that cell to pay homage to him, he added.

He said that as per the provisions of the MP Jail Manual Act there is provision of meeting with the under trial or sentenced prisoners under that any person whose family members, relatives or acquaintances could meet the prisoner with prior permission of the jail superintendent at the place fixed for the meeting in the jail and at fixed time. As per the jail manual the power of inspection or entry into any room or cell of the jail is only to the senior jail department officials. Besides, if court authorizes someone to enter the jail or the district collector could permit police administration for search in the jail. Now, Bhagwat should tell that under what category does he comes, he asked.
