The Aam Aadmi Party on Monday, received a shot in the arm when senior Congress leader and ex-legislator Kalpana Parulekar, who represented Ujjain district’s Mahidpur, joined the party.

While talking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, she said, “The Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee is a puppet in BJP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s hands. I dashed off several missives to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Union Minister Kamal Nath in this regard but they did not take notice. I found the only ray of hope in AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and that prompted me to join the party.”

Parulekar, who is known for her fiery rhetoric, which had landed the Congress in trouble on several occasions, said she never accepted BJP ideology and would go to any extent to uphold her principles. The leader claimed that Kejriwal did a commendable job during his 49-day stint as Delhi Chief Minister and also sacrificed his post after his endeavour to introduce the Jan lokpal Bill in the Assembly was torpedoed.

Being in the Congress, Kalpana had been in the controversy for different reasons. An FIR was registered against her two years ago, when she displayed a photograph, the lokayukta allegedly doctored with malafide intent. The DIC had registered the criminal case and she was arrested. The case is still in the court of law.

She was also one of the two Congress legislators who were terminated from the membership of the State assembly on the charge of hooliganism in the House premises.later, she along with Choudhary Rakesh Singh Chaturvedi had apologised before the Assembly Speaker and by convening special session of the House, their membership was resumed.
