Political circles and common people are intrigued over the decision of Congress party not to send its media panelists to news channels for one month.
It is being discussed whether this decision is justified.
Factually, the decision was taken by Congress president Rahul Gandhi on the suggestion by a young party leader Devashish Jarariya, who had contested Lok Sabha election from Bhind on Congress ticket.
Jarariya himself had been a media panellist of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the past and also took part in numerous debates especially during the caste stir which rattled Madhya Pradesh and other states last year.
Of late he shouldered the responsibility for the Congress party.
Jarariya who had switched over to the grand old party last year, wrote a letter to Congress president Rahul Gandhi on May 25, informing him that he is one of the spokespersons of the Congress party in Madhya Pradesh and workers like him in last five years felt that
media had turned one-sides over the years and where there is no space for constructive
debate and communication.
He candidly alleged that after partaking in 600 plus TV debates, he realised that 95% TV debates were based on BJP propaganda.
Alleging the corporate media had no place for the opposition, Jarariya urged Congress and other parties should seriously consider not sending their spokespersons to TV debates.
“Majority of the debates I was part in were influenced by a certain agenda including religion, India –Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir and so on,” claimed Jarariya.
Though he claimed he has not been contacted by the party personally over the issue. I am not against media interaction as leaders should freely interact to the media for bytes and press conferences, claimed Jarariya.
