'Cong has insulted tribals'

Criticising the Congress over the appointment of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia as the chief of party's State election campaign committee, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today described it as an insult to the tribals.

Talking to media persons in Morena, Chouhan said “by appointing Scindia as the chairman of the State poll campaign committee, the Congress leadership had proved that it had no faith in the party's state president Kantilal Bhuria. This is an insult to the tribals in the State.” Notably, Bhuria belongs to a tribal community and will be heading the Sstate election committee. Both the appointments were made on Tuesday.

Dismissing allegations that the mining mafia in the State had become active under the BJP rule, Chouhan said “till 2003, the State used to get Rs 600 crore royalty from mining, which has gone up to Rs 3,200 crore now. Wherever any complaint (regarding illegal mining) is received, the government acts on it promptly.”

Replying to a query, Chouhan said BJP vice president Uma Bharti would be invited for campaigning in the upcoming Assembly polls. “BJP would contest the State polls on issues of development and people's welfare,” the Chief Minister said. Earlier, the State BJP president Narendra Singh Tomar said the party would announce the names of candidates for the Assembly polls by the end of this month or by the first week of October.
