The State Congress has lodged a complaint with the State Election Commission (SEC) alleging gross violation of the model code of conduct by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the ongoing Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) election. Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman JP Dhanopiya in his complaint to the SEC, said, “The campaigning for the BMC election is at its peak in the State capital and the model code of conduct is in force, in this situation Chief Minister Chouhan is misusing Government machinery and campaigning for BJP’s mayoral candidate Alok Sharma. This is gross violation of the model code of conduct.”
Dhanopiya further said that the Chief Minister has also made several announcements while campaigning for the BJP candidate in Bhopal on Wednesday. “The Chief Minister in his speech said that all works would be done if Alok is elected and that there would be no fund crunch for the BMC and my dream of making Bhopal as the most beautiful city would be realised.
This statement makes it clear that if the Bhopalites elect Congress mayor, then there would be deliberate fund crunch. This clearly suggests that the Chief Minister is openly misusing his office, that is violation of the model code of conduct,” he added. He said that when the person holding the top constitutional office of the State openly violates model code of conduct than it is for sure that the democracy would be murdered in the State.
He said, besides the above mentioned sequence of events the BJP candidate sought votes on the basis of religion by organising a conclave of saints, mahants, pujari, mathadhish and various community personals in Bhopal on Thursday evening. Mixing religion with the election is also violation of model code of conduct. Whole of the BJP Government of the State is misusing its office in Bhopal and violating model code, he added.
