In an attempt to recover from the blow dealt by the ruling party, the Congress party put up a united show involving State's who's who, resolving to dislodge Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from power with a view to end its alleged misrule.
The party held a public assembly at Nasarullaganj tehsil of Sehore district on Sunday. Notably, the place comes under the Assembly constituency of Chief Minister Chouhan.
Condemning the BJP for the dramatic turn of events in the State Assembly last week, former chief minister and national general secretary of Congress Digvijay Singh said that July 11 will be remembered as 'black day' in history. He alleged that Chowdhry Rakesh Singh has been promised a Rajya Sabha seat by BJP which managed to subvert the no-confidence motion by alluring him.
Targeting the Chief Minister, the Congress leader said Shivraj Singh Chouhan had subverted local governing bodies in the State. "When I was chief minister, contract for various works were given directly to gram panchayats but this practise was discontinued by the BJP. Powers entrusted with panchayats have been taken away and farce panchayats are held regularly at the Chief Minister's residence," he claimed. launching a frontal attack on the Chief Minister, Union Urban Development Minister Kamalnath said, "The amount of money given by the Centre to Madhya Pradesh during my tenure of past two and half years is much more than what was provided to the State in last 20 years.”
But the Chief Minister always lies about it to the people and presents it as if his Government has given the money. The Chief Minister merely changes the names of the Central schemes and presents them as his own."
Union Energy Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said the Congress was not inclined merely to gain power but to end the misrule of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government.
"The BJP Government is meting cruelty on dalits, tribals and Muslims of the State. Such a Government has to be removed now," he said, adding that the State led in crimes like rape and has performed badly in social indicators like infant mortality rate under the BJP. Parliamentarian Satyavrat Chaturvedi said that chances of BJP coming to power again are very slim as the saffron party has well surpassed its "quota of sins".
leader of Opposition in State Assembly Ajay Singh said Shivraj Singh Chouhan only believed in telling lies. "The only thing that Chouhan does from morning till night is to tell lies," he said.
The Assembly was addressed by many other party leaders including Congress general secretary and in-charge of the state, Mohan Prakash, former union minister and PCC chief Suresh Pachouri and State Congress chief Kantilal Bhuria.
