State Congress in a memorandum to Governor Ramnaresh Yadav on Tuesday demanded termination of Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta for his failure to check increasing crimes across the state.

A delegation of the senior Congress leaders of the state led by leader of opposition in the Madhya Pradesh assembly Ajay Singh called on the Governor Ramnaresh Yadav and handed over a memorandum appraising that the Home Minister has failed to curb crime rate of the state, especially crime against women and girls are on the rise shaming the state.

Pointing out the recent case of gang-rape in Datia with a Swiss woman and an earlier case of rape with a Korean national in Bandhavgarh the memorandum said that these cases have defamed the state on international arena also. The insensitive statement of the home minister holding the victim Swiss woman responsible for the gang rape further hang our heads with shame. This statement of the Home Minister also exposes his orthodox thinking towards women; hence he does not deserve to remain in office and therefore should be terminated.

The memorandum also mentioned, the figures of crime against women provided by the government in the assembly are not only alarming but also exposes that the government has completely failed in providing security to the women and minor girls in the state. The government has admitted that over 12000 rapes have been committed in the state from the year 2009 to February 15, this year and over 1200 gang rapes have been committed during this period. Everyday ten murders, 19 rapes and 86 cases of atrocities on women are reported in the state, he added.
