Fearing flood situation going out of control in Hoshangabad district, State Congress on Saturday demanded speedy rescue and relief works.

Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) vice-president Manak Agarwal said, “On instructions of State Congress president Kantilal Bhuria, have I visited flood-hit Hoshangabad on Friday and stayed there for whole day. I observed the situation and also met the affected people.”

Agarwal added that half of Hoshangabad is drowned, thousands of people are homeless and many are reported missing. If the rescue and relief measures are not intensified than the condition may further worsen.

Due to improper rescue works, people are forced to face more difficulties and those who have been shifted due to security reasons in temporary camps, are not provided with minimum basic amenities. It appears that the work of district administration was only to rescue them from their homes, he added.

He said that the Soybean crop has fully destroyed due to excessive rains in the district, peasants are distressed and disturb due this sudden furor of the nature. In this hour of crisis, the administration should stand beside them and survey of their losses should be done so that the affected farmers could immediately get compensation. Similar action should be taken for the loss of cattle.

The senior Congress leader said that besides survey for the loss of crop and cattle immediate steps should be taken for the prevention of the diseases feared to spread once the water gets down from the urban and rural residential areas of the district.
