Cong demands six-yr ban on Narottam from contesting elections

State Congress on Thursday filed complaints with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Madhya Pradesh demanding termination of Health Minister Narottam Mishra’s membership from Assembly besides a ban on his contesting election for the next six years. The party also demanded that reconstitution of MP Wakf Board (MPWB) should not be done without permission of Election Commission (EC).

Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman JP Dhanopia in his complaint to the EC reminded that after the 2008 Assembly elections the EC registered case against Mishra and initiated action against him. But Mishra obtained stay order from the Gwalior bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court (HC) in the case.

Dhanopia further added that the High Court on Wednesday, October 9, vacated the stay obtained by Mishra paving way to prosecute him in the case of expending more amounts then the permissible limit in the Assembly election. In these circumstances the current membership of Mishra from the State Assembly should be terminated and as per the law and he should also be banned from contesting the elections for the next six years, he demanded.

In his second complaint, Dhanopia said that a petition was presented in the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh HC against the reconstitution of the MPWB by Dhar resident Sohail Nisar. The HC bench resolved the issue on October 7, and in its order clearly mentioned that the reconstitution of the MOWB must be done as per the amended act 2013 and not under the Board’s 1995 act. As per the new amendment it has been made compulsory to include a religious leader each of Shiya and Sunni communities besides two women as members, he added.

He said that the information pouring in suggested that the BJP Government of the State was doing conspiracy to conduct the elections per the old act that is unjustified. Hence notice should be issued to the State Government that it should not conduct the MPWB elections without taking permission of the EC, he added.
