Cong demands arrest of cop in woman prof's suicide

The Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government of the state has failed to stop harassment of women in the state and demanded immediate arrest of police Inspector Upmanyu Saxena.

MPYC chief Kunal Chowdhry in a statement here on Tuesday said, "The incidents of women harassment in the state including state capital are not stopping. The suicide by a woman in a live-in relationship with a police inspector has stunned the womenfolk. The incident of gang rape of student of Khargone and later her murder by setting ablaze stirred the emotions of the locals."

Chowdhry further said that it is due to the BJP government's failure to control the administration that a police inspector dared to harass his live-in partner, Indu Sharma, in the state capital to such an extent that she ended her life. This incident for sure puts a huge question mark over the police administration and the law and order situation of the State.

He said that Saxena had kept the woman captive and was continuously raping her by threats that compelled Indu Sharma to take the extreme step of suicide. The police administration is providing shelter to Saxena that he has not been arrested till now, he added. He demanded that the accused police officer should immediately be arrested.

The MPYC president also expressed sorrow over the cane-charging by locals on a woman lying unconscious in Niyamtapura area of the Shahjehanabad locality in the state capital. First of all the locals should have been sensitive and should have taken her to the hospital if they could not have done so, instead of beating her up with canes, they should have informed the administration. Pointing fingers over the working of the administration he alleged that such incidents are overlooked by it.
