The Congress urged State Government to take strict action against those responsible for instigating a journalist to attempt suicide in the Madhya Pradesh Secretariat here on Tuesday.
leader of Opposition Ajay Singh, in a statement here on Tuesday, said, “The incidence of attempting to commit suicide by a journalist outside the office of Chief Secretary after suffering unbearable tortured by the Government agencies have exposed the real face of the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government of State.”
Singh said when this Government could torture a journalist, that too in the State capital to this extent that he was forced to take the extreme step of committing suicide and that too outside the office of the Chief Secretary of the State then what this Government would be doing with the common man could well be judged. The State Government should immediately take strict action against those responsible for instigating the journalist for committing suicide, he added.
He said Rajendra Kumar, a journalist, was fighting against the corruption and irregularities done by this Government since long. He also knocked the door of court on some issues, court issued certain directives on his plea but the inaction of the State Government on even the court directives left him with the only option of committing suicide, he added.
He said similarly a journalist from Umaria was murdered by the mafia and this government gave wrong turned to that, but when the Press Council conducted enquiry of that case and the facts came out in that enquiry exposed the real face of the BJP Government. Press Council made recommendations in that case but this Government did not take any action on those recommendations.
