Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) celebrated the 128th foundation day of the party here on Saturday. The programme was presided by MPCC president and MP Kantilal Bhuria.
Addressing party workers on the occasion, Bhuria said Congress was celebrating its 128th Foundation Day which is proud moment for party leaders and workers.
“The Congress party was established on December 28, 1885 by AO Hume and Vomesh Chandra Banerjee was the first president of the party at that time,” said Bhuria, adding that since then, the party has been working for the welfare of public and country at large and it would continue to do so in the future also.
The MPCC president said the party had been led by great leaders as Mahatma Gandhi, popularly called as ‘Father of Nation’, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, lala lajpat Rai, Vipin Chandra Pal, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, Rajendra Prasad, Mahadev Desai, Subhash Chander Bose, lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi over the period of its 128-year-old history. He said after India got freedom in 1947, the Congress party remained as one of the major political parties of India and many prominent leaders of the party has led the nation as Prime Minister and worked for the welfare of the country and its people.
“The history of Congress party is replete with many proud moments and presently the party is being led by Sonia Gandhi who is tirelessly working for the progress and unity of the country,” said Bhuria, adding that it was due to the sincere efforts and able leadership of Sonia Gandhi that India today was counted among the leading countries of the world.
The Congress has played a major role in maintaining the unity and integrity of India and party is firm in its resolve to continue to protect the unity and integrity of the country in future also, he said and added it had played a major role in the independence of the country and after independence, the party has introduced various developmental schemes in the country that led to the creation of a modern India.’
He added that it was due to the futuristic thinking of the party leaders that has led to the creation of modern India as it continue to progress and develop as one of the leading powers in the world.
