Cong, BJP to declare list of candidates by month-end

Both the major political parties in Madhya Pradesh — the Congress and the BJP are poised to declare their list of candidates by the end of this month.

First list of the candidates is almost ready in both the parties, but they are waiting for each other to declare the list first.

Sources said that after finalising tickets of around 100 candidates each by both the parties, they have been given green signal to launch campaigning in their respective constituencies. These candidates of the BJP include the Ministers who are not facing any opposition or they did not demand to change their seats.

State BJP president Narendra Singh Tomar has said that after October 25, his party may declare its first list anytime. He stated that most of the names are decided, but the party is considering names of two or more candidates in few constituencies.

BJP sources said in a couple of days, the party would form State election committee and the first meeting of this panel might be convened on October 26. After the meeting, the list of candidates would be sent to the Central election committee and within 48 hours, the list of candidates would be declared, sources added.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, State BJP president Narendra Singh Tomar and organisational general

secretary Arvind Menon are continuously mulling to change the tickets of those sitting MlAs, who are facing strong opposition in their constituencies.

Besides, everyday several groups of party workers from different constituencies are reaching the State BJP headquarters in support or opposition of ministers or sitting MlAs.

Similarly, the Congress is learnt to have finalised its first list of around 90 candidates and this could be announced anytime after October 25.

Political observers feel that the reason behind delaying the announcement of tickets is that both the parties fear revolt within the party. Both the parties do not want to give much time to the claimants to approach other parties seeking tickets.
