Cong alleges violation of model code of conduct by CM

The State Congress on Monday urged the State Election Commission (SEC) to lodge a case of violation of the model code of conduct against Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman JP Dhanopiya in a memorandum to the State Election Commissioner said that, “Chief Minister is reaching Khargone on Tuesday to inaugurate a project, whereas the process of District Panchayat election is on there.

In these circumstances if the Chief Minister or his Ministerial colleagues does a work of luring the masses, then it is directly violation of model code of conduct.” Dhanopiya in another complaint told the SEC that the Chief Minister was openly violating the model code of conduct. In this context, while inaugurating the election office of Bharatiya Janata Party’s mayoral candidate in Bhopal on Sunday the Chief Minister made many announcements luring the people.

Chouhan said that it would not be mandatory to get permission for construction from any municipal corporation for construction of houses on plots up to 2400 square feet and those who have constructed houses on the government land would not be displaced. The electorate could vote under influence of these announcements, that are clear cut cases of violation of model code of conduct, he added.

The Chief Minister by making Government announcements in the public meetings for the municipal corporations was influencing the electorate that was gross violation of model code of conduct, hence appropriate action should be taken against him, Dhanopiya added.
