A delightful and a thought provoking comedy play ‘Namaste’ was staged here on Sunday at Antrang Hall, Bharat Bhavan.Adapted from Tom Dudziek’s play ‘Greetings’, the play is directed by a renowned actor and director KK Raina.
The play also features a noted actress and singer Ila Arun, KK Raina, Aditi Sharma, Meeya Meilzer Roy, Abhishek Pandey, Ashutosh Pandit, Aashish Chawla in the lead roles.
The play focuses on the new world, where barriers are sinking and where traditions, values and religion are struggling and to keep up with a new generation which is undecided on the path it must follow. Inevitably, this leads to a conflict between the old and the emerging ‘New’.
The play begins with introducing a young boy and the son of the devout Hindu family brings his American-born Indian girlfriend, to meet his family based in Delhi.
It's a devout Hindu family a deeply religious father played by KK Raina who is also the script writer, an open minded yet sceptical mother played by Ila Arun, and a differently-able brother named Sohan.
The family is re-united on the occasion of Janamashtami, and the union leads to a debacle over matters of religion and belief, interspersed with comic one-liners.
Notably, the play combines elements of urban angst with a healthy dose of homespun hokum. A miracle meets the family when an Osho-like spirit takes over Sohan, who manages to re-unite the family on the festive day.
Namaste is a wonderful and interesting play that makes the viewers think to change the expanding world where everyone seems to be confused about a lot of aspects of life.
This play is a take on the modern and old world and there different set of values
conflicting with each other in a comic way leaving audience in the whirls of laughter yet giving out a serious message though.
The Bhopalites and the theatre lovers took a lot of pleasure of the show. Various theatre personalities of the city were spotted who not only watched the show with rapt attention but also appreciated the performance of the play.
