A comedy play Chainpur Ki Dastaan was staged here on Thursday at Madhya Pradesh State Tribal Museum.

Based on Nikolai Gogol's classic comedy 'The Inspector General', 'Chainpur Ki Dastan' was presented by MPSD. 'Chainpur Ki Dastan' is directed by Akshay Singh Thakur. The audience were amused to see such a performance before them.

The action is set in a small town of Chainpur where everyone representing the government is corrupt. The action begins with the Postmaster Jigyasu, who reads every letter before it is delivered, telling his friends that the government is sending a secret officer to investigate the state of affairs in Chainpur. The corrupt community leaders like the Postmaster, Police Inspector, the Doctor and the ex-tangewalla now turned Khan Sahib Bemarouvat get together to plan their strategy against the officer and his two assistants who in reality are conmen who have escaped from jail.

The coterie pretends to be the lever to trap the Inspector-General but in the process gets itself trapped. They pretend to be clever but turn out to be fools. Its powerful social message makes this play popular with audiences. As the action moves forward Ranjit Kapoor creates some delightful situations that bring the house down.

The costumes are imaginatively designed, in tune with the caricature. Each artist has a way of delivering his lines that reveals the personality traits of his or her character.

The music, sensible use of lighting and strong acting skills made audience enjoy the show. Moreover, the situational comedy yet giving out a strong message left the audience in the whirls of laughter.
