Come, spin a yarn, it's Shakespeare's day

To observe the 450th birth anniversary of the great poet and playwright, William Shakespeare, a creative event called ‘Spin a Yarn’ would be held for the benefit of the city’s literati. Organised by Club Ink of Swami Vivekananda library, the event would be held at Swami Vivekananda library Hall, on Friday.

‘Spin a Yarn’ was a creative game played during the old times, but now it has lost its significance in today’s’ time. ‘Spin a yarn’ is a fun and creative story-telling game where each participant adds his own patch and develops the plot further, summoning his imagination. That is, many people join in spinning a yarn, part by part. One participant starts the story, the others join the first participant to complete the story one by one using their own creativity and imagination.

Interestingly, the game is all about how the participants create a story on the spot as fast as they could. As this game has a time limit for every participant as the time period for the first participant is over the story is passed on to the next participant and so on. So as the story reaches the last participant it has to be finished with more creative elements and this is how a story is created and the yarn is spun.

Moreover, the story is first told by the moderator and then it is passed on to the first participant and then to the second and so on, each one adding according to his imagination and developing the story. Further, the moderator also keeps an eye over the direction of the story, time limit and how the story is being weaved and developed. All the participants have to abide by the directions given by the moderator.

Notably, the English language trainer from Bhopal, Ekta Serene, would conduct the game. The game would be held in English language and aspirants of any age group can participate in the competition. The registration is open at the library. The event would begin at the library hall from 5 pm.
