Succumbing to the ongoing hunger strike of students, District Collector Akash Tripathi here on Tuesday wrote a letter to the principal secretary, Medical Education department of the State Government, seeking necessary approval from the Medical Council of India (MCI) for giving admission to wait-listed students on 90 seats in various medical colleges of the State rendered vacant on account of disqualification of medical students in the aftermath of the MP PMT scam.
The Collector in his letter has mentioned about the ongoing hunger strike by students in Indore for the past few days, seeking admission of the wait-listed candidates on the vacant seats. The Collector said the district administration has been constrained to admit the striking students in the MY Hospital on account of deterioration in the health condition, stating that these students continuing their strike even in the hospital.
In his letter, the Collector has also attached memorandum of the striking students. Seeking admission of wait-listed candidates on 90 vacant medical seats in various government medical colleges of the State, these students had been agitating in Indore for the past few days.
Notwithstanding the district administration’s repeated reminders to call off their hunger strike, the students continued with their stir, thereby compelling the district administration to pick these students from the agitation site and admitted them to the ICU of the MY Hospital two days back. However, even in the hospital, the students continued with their hunger strike.
The students during the course of their strike also found favours from various quarters with other medicos and workers of the NSUI joining them in their strike at the agitation venue.
On Monday, former JDU president Dr Vikram Bhuria along with his supporters also met these agitating students assured them to take their agitation at the higher-level with the support of the Congress in the State.
