Collector cleans city, residents join later

Peeved with the apathy of Municipal officials, District Collector was forced to start himself cleaning in different parts of the city. Witnessing this, the local residents also joined the sanitation drive.

Notably, there have been several cases of dengue reported in the district in recent past and heaps of garbage were seen in the localities. Besides, in want of proper cleaning, most of the drains are getting choked and posing threat to the health of the residents.

last week, a 24-year-old youth Manish Darak had died of dengue, while three other residents have been tested positive for this fatal disease. After the death of the youth, the district administration and Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) convened several meeting of officials with the Municipal officials, but to no avail.

Seeing the apathy of the Municipal officials, district Collector Vikas Narwal was forced to clean the drains by himself with the help of a spade. As soon as he started he started working in the drains on Moolchand road, in the heart of the town, the news spread and the Municipal officials flung into action.

Within minutes, Chief Municipal Officer (CMO) RP Maheshwari reached the site. The Collector pulled him up for not taking any efforts towards cleanliness. By the time, local residents had already joined the Collector in the work and they alleged the municipal officials are good for nothing as they never take pains in maintaining cleanliness.

On the occasion, the Collector stated that it was his moral duty to maintain cleanliness in the town. Along with the district administration officials, Red Cross Society also played an important role in the campaign.
