Has Sadhna Singh Chouhan formally joined politics or helping out in safeguarding the prestige of her husbandIJ The Chief Minister’s wife, Sadhna, has always been Chouhan’s shadow, but now her presence on the streets of Bhopal has generated interest and speculation.Sadhna has been a quiet campaigner for Chouhan but seldom did she campaign outside Bhudni or Vidisha. For the first time she is being seen campaigning for the BJP’s mayoral candidate Alok Sharma.
It is learnt that probably she has taken this initiative to safeguard the prestige of her husband, as the mayoral candidate in Bhopal is a close friend of Chouhan. In the past, citizens have witnessed Sadhna Singh seeking votes only for her husband in the Assembly elections. But this is for the first time, when she has been seen campaigning in favour of party nominee Alok Sharma.
Sharma has been close associate of Shivraj Singh Chouhan, since he was new in the politics. To finalize Sharma’s ticket as a mayoral candidate from Bhopal, Chouhan had openly lobbied among senior party leaders.Besides, to ensure the victory of Sharma with huge margin of votes, Chouhan has pressed his whole Cabinet to convene public meetings in various wards of the city.
Sadhna Singh had earlier been an office-bearer of the BJP’s Mahila Morcha. She served in the Morcha for around a year some time back, but later, on the objections of the Chief Minister and other senior leaders of the party, she decided to quit. Moreover, some health reasons were also behind her moving away from active politics. In the Assembly elections held last year, there was immense pressure on the Chief Minister that Sadhna Singh should be pitted from Vidisha constituency, but finally, it was decided that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan would contest from two constituencies - Budhni and Vidisha.
On Wednesday, while the Chief Minister conducted roadshow continuously on the second day in Bhopal, Sadhna Singh along with wife of Alok Sharma and Mahila Morcha members visited door-to-door in old city. She visited Kolar locality and addressed around a dozen party workers’ meetings. On Tuesday, she had visited Govindpura Assembly constituency and she is scheduled to visit Arera Colony areas on Thursday.
