The controversial meeting of the State Cabinet has been deferred for a day.
Earlier, it was scheduled on Thursday, but due to some unknown reasons, it has now been shifted to Friday. Notably, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had few days ago decided to convene the Cabinet meeting on December 5. In this regard, the Chief Minister had recently clarified that he has taken due permission in this regard from the ECI.
However, it was in the limelight after the Opposition Congress members raised voice demanding cancellation of the cabinet meeting, because this might affect the postal ballot of government employees that are yet to be deposited. Intimation in this regard has been provided to the ministers by the Chief Secretary office. This will be the last cabinet of the government elected by 13th State assembly elections. However, at the eleventh hour, on Wednesday night, official sources said that the meeting has been postponed and it would now be held on December 6.
The CM has already informed that no policy decision would be taken in the meeting. Only those decisions that have already been taken would be endorsed in the meeting. Around 40 decisions are likely in the Cabinet for endorsement, sources said. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra told The Pioneer that convening meeting of the Cabinet, is the right of the elected Government.
Chouhan to convene Cabinet meeting today After having received due permission from the Election Commission, there is nothing wrong in convening the meeting, he added. Meanwhile, leader of the Opposition in the State assembly Ajay Singh has criticized the decision of Shivraj Singh Chouhan for convening the Cabinet meeting, stating that this clearly indicates that the BJP is desperate to affect the postal ballots.
