leader of the Opposition in State Assembly, Ajay Singh has alleged that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s announcement made in Majhgawan is contempt of code of conduct as model code of conduct has been promulgated in the district for local body elections. He demanded that a case of contempt of model code should be lodged against Chouhan.
In his complaint with State Election Commission Ajay Singh has alleged that CM Chouhan has declared providing electricity at a flat rate of Rs 200 and starting of Maihar Smart City work and development works at local level during Antyodya programme in Majhagawan on July 30, 2017.
The programme in which the announcements were made was close to Jaitwara municipal council where election would be held.
In the same manner Jaitwara municipal council in Satna district, Jaisinghnagar municipal council, Shahdol municipal council and Budhar municipal council in Shahdol district, Kotma and Bijuri in Anuppur district and Pali in Umaria district would be held.
By announcing to provide electricity at flat rate voters of 15 districts would be influenced which are scheduled to witness local body elections.
Ajay Singh alleged that if CM Chouhan is a well wisher of poor and farmers he should have made the announcement in advance or could have made after the elections but it was intentionally made to influence voters which reflects his wrong intentions.
People at supreme post are expected to follow rules and regulations of constitutional institutes and code of conduct and should inspire others to follow but in this case CM himself is violating code of conduct and under these conditions fair and free elections are distrustful.
The State Election Commission should take action by lodging complaint against this serious offence by CM Chouhan.
