Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday reasserted in the Assembly that no stone would be unturned to stop unauthorised sand mining on the banks of the Naramada river which is considered to be the State’s lifeline.
However, the Chief Minister pointed out that the legal mining would continue and decision in this regard could not be taken on the demand of the Opposition alone but after obtaining the opinions of the experts of the National Green Tribunal.
Chouhan’s reply came after the main Opposition Congress urged that the illegal sand mining be banned on the river bank as he was informing the House about the month-long mass awareness programme to be commenced from the Narmada’s origin Amarkantak from October 11.
Chouhan informed that the objective of the Yatra is to make the river pollution-free. The Chief Minister said he was inviting all members of the House cutting across party lines to join the Yatra and there should not be any politics over it.
