CM violating electoral code, complains Cong

The State Congress, objecting recent announcements made by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Shahdol, has knocked the doors of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) spokesman JP Dhanopiya in a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the State on Friday alleged that having an eye to the by-polls in Shahdol that could be announced anytime, Chief Minister is making announcements by setting aside all rules and regulations to lure the electorate.

Hence the activities of the chief minister and his cabinet colleagues should be stopped, he added.

Dhanopiya said, “lok Sabha election for the Shahdol parliamentary constituency could be announced any time and with the announcement of by-poll model code of conduct would also come into force. But it is unfortunate that the chief minister and his cabinet colleagues are continuously doing works by setting aside all rules and regulations there in order to woo the electorate. In the process chief minister is making announcements to mislead the electorate that is immoral.”

Dhanopiya further said that last days the chief minister distributed pattas to over 5000  forest dwellers and publicized that as a gift from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that is totally wrong.

The Congress party has expressed angst over the chief minister as during the past three years no pattas were distributed in Shahdol and now over 5000 pattas in a single day by chief minister having an eye over the lok Sabha by poll.

The senior Congress leader requested the CEO that the activities to lure electorate should be stopped so that the impartial election could be held.
