Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced the formation of two major metropolitan cities in the state, marking a significant milestone for MP's development. It is believed that the Mohan government plans to develop these cities on the lines of Delhi and Mumbai, a long-standing demand that has been discussed multiple times but rarely implemented. On January 26, during an event in Indore, CM Mohan Yadav declared that eight prominent cities in the state would be combined to create two major metropolitan areas, which is expected to boost rural and urban economic development.
According to the announcement, eight cities will be connected to form these metropolises. Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, and Dhar will be merged to create one metropolis, while the second will include Bhopal, Raisen, Vidisha, and Rajgarh. The proximity of these cities, with none being more than 50 kilometers apart, makes this plan feasible. These metropolitan cities will be designed along the lines of Delhi and Mumbai to establish a modern urban infrastructure in Madhya Pradesh. Although a timeline for the project is yet to be determined, the announcement is considered a major step toward the state’s progress.
Indore, the largest city in the state, is closely connected to Ujjain, Dewas, and Dhar, with all cities within a 50-kilometer radius. This connectivity makes it practical to integrate these cities into one metropolitan area. The merger is expected to not only enhance the economic framework but also accelerate the urbanization of rural areas situated between these cities. Since all four cities already have municipal corporations, merging them would expand their jurisdiction and potentially establish Madhya Pradesh’s first metro city.
Similarly, the plan to connect Bhopal with Raisen, Vidisha, and Rajgarh is gaining momentum. The distance between Bhopal and Raisen has significantly reduced, with only a 20-kilometer stretch of forest now separating them, while Rajgarh and Vidisha are also relatively close. Recently, Vidisha was declared a municipal corporation, which will further aid this integration.
