leader of Opposition Ajay Singh alleged on Monday that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was responsible for the suicide of over 15,000 farmers of the State.
Singh, in a statement, said that the Chief Minister was responsible for the suicide of over 15,000 peasants of the State and further asked by now how many farmers’ life Chouhan would take.
“The Chouhan Government is taking awards in the name of farmers and is petting its back by publicising itself as pro farmers while the farmers in the State are committing suicide as their land is forcibly snatched,” Singh said.
The Congress also demanded justice for the farmers of Bujbuja and compensation of `5 lakh each to the family members of those farmers who have committed suicide besides job to a family member and implementation of the Human Rights Commission’s recommendations for them.
The senior Congress leader said that the farmers in Katni district’s Bujbuja have been agitating since last three-four years and many of them have committed suicide. They have even set up pyre to warn the Chouhan Government that they would give their lives but would not give their land but the Government did not notice their concern.
He reminded that on Sunday, a 22-year-old farmer Kinkar Patel had committed suicide. The farmers of the State were suffering due to the ‘anti-farmer policies’ of the State Government as the land meant for their livelihood has been being snatched away by the Government for industries and development. They were neither being compensated adequately for their land nor were provided land of their choice. On the one hand the Chief Minister pretended to be the well-wisher of the youths, while on the other snatched the land of a young farmer that was his livelihood forcing him to commit suicide, he added.
