The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stated that Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi has supported the suggestion of holding simultaneous elections to Parliament and State Assemblies.
Notably, the idea of holding the elections together entered the mainstream debate since Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan made a strong pitch for it for the past few years. later, the Prime Minister had advocated this idea saying said that holding simultaneous elections at various levels would give political and social workers more time to take people-oriented programs to the grassroots level.
In a statement, BJP’s State President and Parliamentarian Nandkumar Singh Chouhan has stated that the development works get affected during the lengthy process of election. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had on many occasions expressed the need of holding both the elections together.
Election Commission has informed the Parliamentary Committee and the Ministry of law and Justice about its opinion, he added.
Chouhan further stated that the Election Commission has sought the suggestions of political parties on the idea of holding the simultaneous elections together. The constitutional process would start after political parties provide their acceptance over holding the elections of the parliament and state assemblies together.
Chouhan further added that Election Commission has provided its acceptance and said that around `9000 crore would be needed for the process and the number of voting machines would have to be increased for this.
This system would end various problems regarding the delay in the development works due to the long election process. This would also stop the misuse of money and time during the elections.
