CM: Labourers being transported by bus sans cost

Published on:

For Madhya Pradesh, the challenge of transporting the labourers their destinations is little more than in other States. While the labourers of Madhya Pradesh who are trapped in other States have to reach their homes safely, on the other hand, the labourers of other States who are on transit from Madhya Pradesh have to be taken to the borders of their States.

Being the heartland of the country, labourers going to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan etc. have to cross Madhya Pradesh. These labourers reach the border of Madhya Pradesh either on foot or by other means. The maximum pressure is at Bijasan Ghat on the border of Sendhwa. Nearly 5 to 6 thousand labourers reach there daily.

These labourers are being provided food, and are being transported to Dewas transit by bus free of cost after medical examination. They are transported by bus from here to Sagar, Chhatarpur and Guna. From these places, labourers of other districts of the state are being transported to their districts and those of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bihar to the border of Uttar Pradesh.

Nearly 15,000 labourers have been served food at Sendhwa border in the last three days. They have been sent to their destination by buses via Dewas. Due to the large number of labourers, continuous efforts are being made to increase the number of buses and trips.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has appealed the labourers to have patience. They will be transported free of cost by buses after being provided food and medical checkups.

There is no need to panic in this hour of crisis, Madhya Pradesh Government will ensure that every labourer reaches home. Food, temporary stay, medical check-up and buses have been arranged for labourers in the border districts of Madhya Pradesh.

This arrangement will continue until all the labourers who have arrived are left at their destinations.Few such cases are coming to light where labourers are traveling on foot or by other means under compulsion. Such labourers are urged to try to reach the district administration or ensure information about them reaches the district administration. They will be provided full assistance. So far, 3 lakh 12 thousand 509 labourers of the state have returned.

Additional Chief Secretary and State Control Room Incharge ICP Keshari has informed that a total of 2 lakh 26 thousand 803 labourers were brought back between April 22 and May 14 through road transport.
