Climate change will be an important challenge to achieve the target for sustainable development targets of the United Nations approved by India and all other countries of the world like poverty, social disparity, illiteracy, health, malnutrition, child mortality rate and food security.

Executive Director of Environment Planning and Coordinating Organisation (EPCO) Anupam Rajan said this in the workshop on Inter Relationship between Target for Sustainable Development and Climate Change organized by the EPCO and UNDP on Friday.

He said that understanding the inter relationship of climate change and sustainable development, policy is being framed regarding climate change in Madhya Pradesh.

Rajan further mentioned that the targets of sustainable development were fixed by the United Nations on September 2015 and these are effective from January 1, 2016.

India has also approved these targets and action plan is being prepared by the Planning Commission at National level. As many as 50 Representatives of UNDP, Government departments and Non Government Organisations took part in the workshop.

National Project Manager UNDP Project Anand Kumar said that we have to find effective means and opportunities to integrate them in the government policies for solution of climate change.

Hence, it is expected from all the departments of the state government to prepare 3, 7 and 15 years action plan and whichever is better should be included as the priority of the department.

This will help making a consolidated scheme to achieve targets of sustainable development.
