Special Establishment of Police lokayukta caught a clerk posted with Urban land Ceiling department, while accepting bribe of Rs2000 at Bhopal district collector office on Monday.
Action against the clerk was taken after a complaint was lodged by one Awdesh Naagar regarding demand of bribe to provide relaxation in the seizure of his financed bus.
Complainant has availed of loan for bus and around Rs1 lakh was the remaining payment which was to be made but as the complainant deferred the payment the action to seize the vehicle was under process. When the complainant was issued notice regarding the seizure of his vehicle he contacted the concerned department where clerk posted under Tehsildar PS Tripathi, Nagendra Gupta demanded a bribe of Rs5000.
The complainant agreed to provide the bribe and subsequently lodged a complaint with the lokayukta regarding the demand of bribe.
Acting on the complaint the lokayukta officials trapped the clerk and asked the complainant to inform Gupta that he would be provided with Rs2000 and the rest amount would be paid later. Gupta agreed to the offer and told the complainant to provide the money at his office. On Monday afternoon when Gupta was accepting bribe of Rs2000 he was caught red handed by lokayukt and a case under Section 7 and 13 of Prevention of Corruption Act was registered.
