A play Waiting For Godot was staged at Shaheed Bhavan Auditorium as the curtain raiser of a four day theatre festival, being organised by Maahi Socio Cultural Group. Besides, an award ceremony was organised on the occasion. Yaduraj Singh was conferred with Rangkarm Sadhna Samman and Devi Singh Rawat was conferred with Rang Darshak Samman.

The theatre festival is being convened in the memory of a noted and distinguished theatre artist Ajay Tiwari. Directed by Dinesh Nair, the play is an absurdist play by Samuel Beckett, in which two characters, Vladimir and Estragon, wait endlessly and in vain for the arrival of someone named Godot. Godot's absence, as well as numerous other aspects of the play also showcased in the play. This play is about a conversation between two tramps, Vladimir and Estragon, who find themselves in an indefinite place supposedly waiting for somebody called Godot, whose identity and the very reality of his existence is in serious doubt.

The plot of Waiting for Godot is simple to relate. Two tramps are waiting by a sickly looking tree for the arrival of M. Godot. They quarrel, make up, contemplate suicide, try to sleep, eat a carrot and gnaw on some chicken bones. Two other characters appear, Pozzo and lucky, the master and slave who perform a grotesque scene in the middle of the play. A young boy arrives to say that M. Godot will not come today, but that he will come tomorrow. The play is a development of the title, waiting for Godot. He does not come and the two tramps resume their vigil by the tree, which between the first and second day has sprouted a few leaves, the only symbol of a possible order in a thoroughly alienated world.

The purely comic aspect of the play involves traditional routines. The language of the play has gravity, intensity, and conciseness. The play has its own beauty and suggestiveness, and it makes its own comment on man's absurd hope and on the absurd insignificance of man that was much enjoyed by the audience. The play left the audience mesmerized with the splendid performance.
